Dr. Marc Malek graduated from U.C. Davis twice. First with a B.S in Environmental Toxicology in 1986 and then with a D.V.M in 1990 from the School of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately after graduating he began practicing with a mixed animal  practice (large and small animals) in the Marysville/Wheatland area. When the owner of the practices sold the large animal component of the practice Dr. Malek moved to Sacramento and began a new challenge as the managing veterinarian for the Animal Birth Control clinic. Business management proved to be the next natural progression in his career. When the opportunity to become a practice owner arose he carefully considered a residency in Small Animal Surgery at U.C.D first but ultimately chose the path he is currently on. Practice ownership is a challenge which Dr. Malek has grown to depend on to fulfill his professional goals.

As a practitioner Dr. Malek enjoys surgery above all. The artistic nature blended with technical and scientific foundings make surgery especially attractive. The ability to potentially solve an animals's problem in one fell swoop is another quality which surgery provides. Internal medicine and all it's subdisiplines run a close second to surgery. Practicing ultrasound is Dr. Malek's most recent clinical endeavor. Ultrasound actually closes the gap between medicine and surgery. Often when a medicine case leads to a particular organ ultrasound imaging is required and a core biopsy instrument can be guided to surgically sample that tissue!

Dr. Malek lives in Auburn with his wife Katherine, daughter Penny, son Mitchell and the rest of the Malek animal sanctuary (3dogs,8 cats,a Hans Macaw,  numerous fish, 4 horses, 3 goats, a Jersey steer, 4 ducks and 25 or so chickens. Taking work home is an understatement here! The Maleks wouldn't have it any other way.
